Today at F8, Facebook’s annual conference the company announced Facebook Spaces, is a place where people can collaborate in real-time with friends and family in VR, no matter where they are on the planet.

Here are the key features of this new VR app:

  • Be yourself in VR: Choose one of your tagged Facebook photos and you’ll see an array of options for how you can appear in VR. You can change your eye color, hairstyle, facial features, and more to help people recognize you, making VR feel more like hanging out in person.
  • Connect with friends and family: Once you’ve decided on your look, invite your Facebook friends into your space. You and your friends can view Facebook content, (including 360 videos and photos), relive personal memories from your own Timelines, or make new ones as you explore things that interest you from people and pages you follow.
  • Messenger video calling: With Messenger video calling, you can bring even more friends into your VR space. Call a friend who isn’t in VR, and they can answer on their phone to instantly open a window into your virtual world.
  • Virtual markers: In Spaces, you can use a virtual marker to draw 3D objects, including everything from a decorative accessory to a handmade tic-tac-toe board. You can then grab these drawings to move them around, and even save them for later so you can revisit your creations.
